VACANCIES ON THE SEDONA PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
Sedona residents with an interest in land use planning and development are encouraged to apply to serve on the City's Planning and Zoning Commission.  The Commission plays a critical role in the City's planning process as they serve as the Council's advisor on land use planning topics.  The Commission is also involved in important community issues and considers goals and policies for directing and managing future development.  Duties include reviewing, evaluating and making recommendations to the Council on Community Plan and Land Development Code amendments, rezonings and subdivision applications.  Additionally, the Commission makes the final decision on conditional use permits and development review applications.

It is desirable that Planning and Zoning Commissioners have some experience or knowledge in land use or related fields, including but not limited to architecture, construction, landscaping, and planning.  This voluntary Commission is made up of seven citizens appointed to three-year terms by City Council.   Currently there are three vacancies.  Citizens can learn more about the Planning and Zoning Commission's particular responsibilities by contacting the Community Development Department and referring to the Land Development Code.

If you are interested in serving on this important Commission, applications are available from the City Clerk's office at City hall located at 102 Roadrunner Drive, or by calling 282-3113.  Return completed applications to City Clerk's Office, Planning and Zoning Commission, 102 Roadrunner Drive, Sedona, AZ 86336.   The deadline to return completed applications is Friday, October 23, 2009 by 5:00 p.m.  For more information about the Commission, call Audree Juhlin at 928-204-7107.

Acting & Voice Classes for the Fall at Canyon Moon

THREE DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE CLASSES FOR THE FALL

Join Canyon Moon Theatre for the excitement of learning and the fun of performance in a series of classes taught by experienced professionals. Our teachers provide a supportive, high-quality experience for actors of all ages and experience levels.

The Play's the Thing is an acting class that culminates in the production of a play.  Students have the opportunity to apply acting lessons directly to their rehearsals for six weeks and then to perform a play on stage at a professional theater.  The play will be chosen and cast after the first class, and will be tailored to the students in the class.  The class runs Sunday evenings 6-9 PM from September 20-October 25 with nine additional hours of semi-private coaching. There are additional rehearsals on October 26, 28 with performances October 29, 30.  This class is open to everyone 17 and over.  The fee is $199 for forty hours of instruction including performances.

Instructor/director Robert Bays, Ph.D. is a Broadway actor and former university professor, who taught acting and voice production for the stage for years in New York City. He has worked in regional theaters throughout the country including The Guthrie in Minneapolis, the Barter Theatre, and the St. Louis Rep.

Ever wanted to communicate what's on your mind with a strong, clear voice? In Voice Intensive, Bays will use the Lessac system for voice training to teach you the vocal awareness and voice production that is naturally inside you.  For anyone who wants an intensive course that guarantees vocal strength for use on stage, in public speaking, in business or for personal interactions, this class is a must. Voice Intensive runs September 23-25 from 6:30-8:30 PM, and Saturday, September 26 from 12:30-4:30. The price for ten hours of class is $129. Bays worked with the legendary Arthur Lessac for many years at the State University of New York at Binghamton.

What could be more wonderful than voice lessons using musical theatre songs?  In Acting through Song, you will explore songs and improvise in the context of the musical scene.  Individual attention will be given in a master class style.  You will learn to use your voice to serve the song, so come prepared to sing, sing, sing!  Class is Tuesday evenings from 6:30-9 PM, September 22 through November 17, with no class on November 3.  The fee for sixteen hours of class is $199.

Instructor Teri Bays is a professional singer/actress, who has starred in musical roles as varied as Maria in The Sound of Music and Anita in West Side Story. She was a company member with Light Opera of Manhattan and performed several cabaret shows in NYC at such known clubs as the The Duplex.  A graduate of the Hartt School of Music, Teri is a certified teacher and has two solo CD's.  She has been Director of Music and Liturgy at St. John Vianney in Sedona for seven years.
Classes will be at Canyon Moon Theatre in the Oak Creek Factory Outlets on Hwy 179 in the Village of Oak Creek.  The Theatre is located next to Village Pet Supply and Grooming.  Please contact Canyon Moon at 928-282-6212 to register or for more information.
